I don’t usually write about movies here, since this is mostly a photography blog. But Disclosure Day annoyed me enough that I wanted to get a few thoughts down.
I was looking forward to this one. Interesting premise, Steven Spielberg directing, and I figured I’d get a couple of hours of good science fiction out of it.
Instead, I spent two and a half hours waiting for things to come together. I kept expecting the story to make more sense, for some of the decisions characters made to have a reason behind them, and for the whole thing to lead somewhere worthwhile. The longer it went on, the more contrived it felt.
I don’t need science fiction to be realistic, but I do need it to make sense within its own world. Too much of this movie felt like things happening because the plot needed them to happen.
By the time it was over, I was frustrated. Not because it was the worst movie I’ve ever seen, but because I kept giving it the benefit of the doubt, waiting for it to pay off. And it didn’t. I could have spent those two and a half hours doing something else, and that’s honestly where I landed with it.
