Behind the Yellow Line

How far do you go to get a good photo?

There’s always some daredevil photos circulating Facebook, from atop radio towers or construction cranes…even giant wind turbines.

I see some great urban photography on Flickr and 500px—less daredevil, more trespasser.

I admire the styles—the images are usually extraordinary. The effort undertaken to capture them? Not in my wheelhouse.

I’m not much of a risk taker, and not terribly interested in adding trespassing charges to my list of life experiences.

The photo on this post? Train was starting from a standstill, moving away from me. No great risk there…except to my eardrums as the engine roared past.

Shooting with a 50mm, I’ve adopted the precept of moving your feet to get your shot. But my feet are going to stay on solid ground, behind the yellow line.
